The story of Kheerganga: A beautiful chaos.

The story of Kheerganga: A beautiful chaos.

Kheer Ganga is 22km away from Kasol, Himachal Pradesh the place where the moon meets the mountains. Where lies the story of Lord Shiva's elder son Karthikey and Lord Ganesh's competition and anger with Parshuram.

The view everyone should see once in their lifetime is the story everyone should know about but most people don't know how kheer Ganga got its name.

The trek is 12km long but the view you will get to see in the end is worth the struggle.

But first, let me tell you the story of how kheer Ganga got its name.

A long time ago when Ganesh and Lord Karthikey got into an argument about who's vehicle is faster and to measure this Karthikey challenged Ganesh to a race around the world and whoever comes first wins the race.

But the story gets a little twist here as Karthikeystarted the race but Ganesh didn't take part in it more surprising is that Ganesh wins the race, but how?

The answer lies in the question itself.

When karthikey was told Ganesh to race around the world he didn't specify in which world.

For Karthikeyit was Earth but for Ganesha Lord Shiva and Devi, Parvati is his world so Ganesha simply took a round of Lord Shiva and Parvati and wins the race.

When Karthikey saw this he didn't understand what just happened and misunderstood the whole scenario and got jealous.

After that Karthikey decided to meditate for a while to overcome the jealousy or anger.

When Devi Parvati heard this news she got worried about Karthikey’s health as it was a sudden decision and Devi Parvati did not want any harm to her elder son. To take care of Karthikey’s appetite she’ll be having a river full of milk across the Parvati valley.

And that’s how Kheerganga got its first name “Doodhganga”.

Due to having a river full of milk Karthikey had no problem with his appetite while meditating.

When the meditation was completed Karthikey got worried about the river as in Kalyug people will misuse the river and Karthikey didn’t want that to happen. To solve this problem Lord Shiva asked Rishi Parshuram to take care of the river so that in Kalyug people can’t misuse the Doodhganga.

Rishi Parshuram visited the Doodhganga himself to see the creation of Devi Parvati and he got amazed by the marvelousness of the river.

Parshuram wanted to make a special dish with the milk of the river and offer it to Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati to do that he took Rice and some ingredients and mixed it with the milk from the river that dish was called Kheer or Sweet Rice.

As he was about to take a bit of that special Kheer he made an unexpected tragedy happen somehow the pot that was containing the Kheer fell down and got spilled in the Doodhganga.

This made Parshuram angry and he started showing his anger when this happen all the Gods came to Parshuram and asked him what happen and why is he so angry.

Parshuram told the story and said someone did this on purpose and he will not forgive the culprit.

But God didn’t want Parshuram to get angrier so Lord Shiva told him to calm down and think again as a decision taken in ager always hurts later.

Parshuram understood what Lord Shiva was trying to say and went into deep meditation to understand the whole scenario more clearly.

While in deep meditation Parshuram heard a little girls laugh that girls were Doodhganga and quickly understand this was all her doing.

He got angrier and cursed the Doodhgang that she will be called Kheerganga from now on and also sealed her but when Satyug will come she will appear again.

That’s how Kheergnaga got its name.

Now about the trek.

Kheerganga trek is 12km long and with lots, of waterfalls in midways and at the top you’ll witness the beautiful Himalayas.

The morning at the top of Kheerganga will amaze you but if everything goes well you can witness the night sky where you can see glimpses of the Milkyway.
